The story unfolds against the backdrop of Honda’s attempt to sell its works team in the midst of the 2008 season. When no suitable buyer emerged, Honda decided to withdraw, and Ross Brawn stepped in to take control of the Brackley team for the symbolic sum of one pound. With a Mercedes engine supply secured for 2009 and the formidable RA109, developed by Honda for the new regulations, the rebranded Brawn GP BGP001 showcased its potential with an innovative double diffuser design.

The team dominated from the outset, securing a front-row lockout and a 1-2 victory in the season opener in Melbourne. Jenson Button’s stellar performance, winning six of the first seven races, paved the way for an unexpected world championship victory in Brazil.
