Carlyle John Dinsmoor (10 April 1913 – 12 October 1985) was an American racing driver who competed under the racing name Duke Dinsmore. Before his motor-racing career, Dinsmoor served with the United States Army Air Forces during the Second World War.

World Drivers’ Championship
Dinsmore’s place in Formula One’s statistical history comes through the Indianapolis 500.
From 1950 through 1960, the AAA – and later USAC – sanctioned Indianapolis 500 formed part of the FIA World Drivers’ Championship. As a result, drivers competing at the Brickyard during those years were officially credited with World Championship appearances and could score points towards both the American National Championship and, where applicable, the World Drivers’ Championship.
Dinsmore competed in four Indianapolis 500s that counted towards the World Drivers’ Championship.
His best result from those appearances was 16th place, and he did not score any World Championship points.
Although Dinsmore’s racing career belonged firmly to the American oval tradition rather than the European Grand Prix scene, Indianapolis’ unusual place on the Formula One calendar means his name remains part of World Championship history.
Dinsmoor died on 12 October 1985, aged 72.
