2027 F1 World Championship

The 2027 FIA Formula One World Championship, which the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) recognises as the pinnacle of open-wheel racing, will see drivers and teams compete in 24 Grands Prix for the World Drivers’ and World Constructors’ Championship titles.

The 2027 season follows the major regulatory overhaul introduced in 2026, which brought in a new power unit formula and the implementation of active aerodynamics. Audi will be in its second season as a full factory team, having entered the sport in 2026 after acquiring Sauber. The team will continue to develop and run its own power units in-house.

Cadillac also completed its first season in Formula One, having joined the grid in 2026 as the eleventh team. Powered by Ferrari engines, Cadillac were the sport’s first team expansion since Haas joined in 2016.

Honda will maintain its engine supply relationship with Aston Martin through its Honda Racing Corporation division, after ending its long-standing partnership with Red Bull Racing at the end of the 2025 season. Meanwhile, Ford looks to continue its return to the sport by supplying power unit support to both Red Bull Racing and the Racing Bulls, in collaboration with Red Bull Powertrains.

Renault is expected to remain absent from engine supply, continuing into 2027, a break in its long-running involvement since 1988. Alpine, no longer using Renault power, will have completed its first season running as a Mercedes customer team in 2026.

Season

As the 78th running of the Formula 1 World Championship, the 2027 F1 season will be the second year under the FIA’s overhauled chassis and power unit regulations, which were first introduced in 2026.

While the core framework of these technical rules is expected to remain largely intact, minor updates or refinements could still be introduced as teams and regulators adapt to the new era. Any adjustments are likely to be evolutionary rather than revolutionary, building on the foundation laid in the previous season.

2027 F1 Entries Drivers and Teams

The complete driver line-up for the 2027 Formula 1 season is still pending confirmation, though several teams have already secured their line-ups, and multiple drivers are under existing contracts.

In total, 22 drivers are expected to compete, representing 11 teams on the grid. While some seats remain unconfirmed, the beginnings of the 2027 grid are already taking shape.

2027 Formula 1 Race Calendar

The complete race calendar for the 2027 Formula 1 season has yet to be officially released, though a significant portion of the schedule has already been confirmed.

A total of 24 races are expected for the year, with some notable changes. The Dutch Grand Prix will not feature on the 2027 roster, as organisers have previously announced that 2026 will mark its final running. Similarly, uncertainty surrounds the future of the race traditionally held at the Circuit de Catalunya, given the move to include Madrid starting in 2026.

On 16 December 2025, Formula 1 confirmed a return to Portugal for the 2027 and 2028 seasons, with the Algarve International Circuit at Portimão scheduled to appear on the calendar. The Portuguese Grand Prix will effectively replace the Dutch GP at Zandvoort, which is set to be removed from the schedule after 2026.

Portimão last hosted F1 races in 2020 and 2021, during the COVID-impacted seasons, and is known for its challenging layout and elevation changes. The circuit also holds historical significance, having hosted Lewis Hamilton’s then-record-breaking 92nd career victory in 2021.

Looking ahead, the calendar is expected to undergo further adjustments beyond 2027, with certain events rotating in and out of the schedule on alternate years. One confirmed example of this approach is the Belgian Grand Prix, which will take place at Spa-Francorchamps in 2027 but will be absent in 2028.

On 24 April 2026, it was announced that the Turkish Grand Prix would return to Formula 1 in 2027 after Istanbul Park signed a new five-year deal running through 2031.
