Lando Norris, a dual British and Belgian citizen, represents Britain as a Formula One driver and debuted with McLaren in 2019.
Early on, Norris showed his prowess as an open-seater driver and in 2015, he won the MSA Formula championship and continued his streak by taking home titles in the Toyota Racing Series, Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0, and Formula Renault 2.0 Northern European Cup in 2016, while also earning the coveted McLaren Autosport BRDC Award.
He further established his skill and promise by securing the 2017 FIA Formula 3 European Championship with Carlin Motorsport, leading him to join the Formula 2 Carlin team, where he placed second in 2018.
Norris signed on as a junior driver with McLaren in February 2017, earning praise from Zak Brown who deemed him a “fabulous prospect.” During a mid-season test, Norris impressed with the second-fastest lap time on the second day at the Hungaroring. This led to his official appointment as McLaren’s test and reserve driver for the 2018 season later that year.
Norris made his official practice session debut at the 2018 Belgian Grand Prix, completing 26 laps. He went on to participate in six additional practice sessions throughout the year.
In 2019, Norris landed a full-time drive with McLaren to compete alongside Carlos Sainz. At his first race, the Australian Grand Prix, Norris secured eighth place during qualifying and ultimately finished twelfth. At the Bahrain Grand Prix, Norris finally claimed his first points in Formula One by placing sixth. He claimed his first Formula One podium at the 2020 Austrian Grand Prix.
