Chaboud began his racing career relatively late, making his debut in 1936 at the age of 29 in a Delahaye sports car. He soon teamed up with his mentor, Jean Trémoulet, for the 1937 24 Hours of Le Mans, although they were forced to retire from the race. The following year, however, the pair returned to claim victory at Le Mans in a Delahaye, marking the highlight of Chaboud’s early career.
In 1939, he won the Paris–Nice road race driving for Ecurie France. After the interruption of World War II, he resumed racing and secured victory at the 1946 Belgian Grand Prix, held at Bois de la Cambre, driving a Delage.
With the introduction of the Formula One World Championship in 1950, Chaboud competed in several events using a Talbot-Lago T26. Across the 1950 and 1951 seasons, he entered three World Championship Grands Prix, achieving his best result with a fifth-place finish at the French Grand Prix, which earned him one championship point.
Chaboud retired from competitive racing following a serious crash during the 1952 24 Hours of Le Mans, where his Talbot-Lago T26 overturned and trapped him underneath the car.
