Gasly commits long-term future to Alpine

Pierre Gasly has put pen to paper on a major contract extension with Alpine, securing his place at the French manufacturer until the end of the 2028 Formula 1 season. The move signals Alpine’s clear intent to build its future around the 29-year-old as the team eyes the next era of the sport.

What To Know?

  • Gasly’s new Alpine deal runs until end of 2028.
  • Joined Alpine in 2023, with two podiums so far.
  • Extension agreed ahead of Italian Grand Prix 2025.

Pierre Gasly, who joined Alpine in 2023, has already delivered two podiums and played a star role in guiding the squad to sixth place in last year’s 2024 Constructors’ Standings. His previous deal was set to run through 2025, but both sides were eager to strike early and extend the partnership—finalising terms ahead of the 2025 Italian Grand Prix, a race Gasly won in 2020.

A French driver for a French team

Gasly spoke with pride about committing long-term to the Enstone-based outfit:

“I’m thrilled to commit my long-term future to Alpine. As a Frenchman, especially, driving for a French car company makes me feel very proud. Flavio’s support, Francois’ leadership, and the team in Enstone made this a natural decision. We all share the same ambition: to win races and World Championships.”

The announcement arrives as the team’s performance in the 2025 F1 World Championship falters, with Alpine determined to use Gasly as a cornerstone in its preparations for the sweeping regulation reset of 2026. Under the leadership of Executive Advisor Flavio Briatore and Renault Group’s new CEO François Provost, Alpine sees Gasly as the driver to spearhead its push back toward the front of the grid.

Briatore backs Gasly as Alpine’s leader

Briatore, back in the Alpine fold since earlier this season, was quick to underline the importance of Gasly’s extension:

“Since I returned, I’ve been clear: we need stability and a leader. Pierre has shown his value in tough times—his commitment, talent, and attitude are exactly what we need. With him, Alpine is well prepared for 2026 and beyond.”

What’s next for Alpine?

Gasly’s future is now set, but his teammate’s seat remains less certain. Rookie Franco Colapinto currently occupies the second Alpine, though the team has yet to confirm its long-term driver lineup beyond 2025.

For Gasly, though, the message is clear: Alpine is betting big on him to lead their journey into F1’s new era. For the fans, it’s a story with a distinctly French flavour—one that could yet deliver Alpine back to the top step of the podium.
