Alfredo Pián (21 October 1912 – 25 July 1990) was an Argentine racing driver whose promising career came to a heartbreaking end before it had the chance to truly begin. Best known for his entry in the inaugural Formula One World Championship season, Pián competed with a Maserati 4CLT entered by the Scuderia Achille Varzi team at the 1950 Monaco Grand Prix.
During Saturday practice for the famous street race, Pián showed impressive pace and had set the sixth-fastest time when disaster struck. After hitting an oil patch, he lost control of his Maserati and crashed heavily into the guardrail, with the impact throwing him from the cockpit. The accident left him with serious leg injuries, ruling him out of the Grand Prix before the race had even begun.
Although Pián never started a Formula One World Championship race, the injuries sustained in the Monaco crash forced him to retire from competitive motorsport, bringing an untimely end to what had looked to be a highly promising racing career.
