Drake made a single appearance in the Formula One World Championship at the 1960 United States Grand Prix on 20 November 1960, where he did not score any championship points. He is particularly notable for being the last driver to compete in a World Championship Grand Prix with the iconic Maserati 250F.
The Maserati 250F, a front-engined 2.5-litre Grand Prix car, had been one of the most successful machines of the 1950s. However, by 1960, it was already outdated, and new Formula One regulations introduced in 1961 rendered such cars obsolete as the sport transitioned to rear-engined designs.
Beyond his brief Formula One career, Drake led a varied life, working as a naval diver, running a restaurant, and performing as a stuntman.
