James Merriman Jackson (25 July 1910 – 25 November 1984) was an American racing driver whose career crossed into Formula One history through the Indianapolis 500. From 1950 to 1960, the AAA/USAC-sanctioned Indy 500 formed part of the FIA World Drivers’ Championship, meaning drivers who raced there were also officially credited with World Championship appearances and could score points in both the World Drivers’ Championship and the AAA/USAC National Championship.
Jackson made two World Drivers’ Championship starts from three entries at Indianapolis during that period. His best result was 15th place, and although he did not score any World Championship points, his appearances placed him among the American racers connected to Formula One’s early championship era.
