Ludwig Fischer, born on 17 December 1915, was a German racer whose ambitions repeatedly ran into sporting and administrative obstacles. Following a prison sentence connected with trade and customs offences, he began competing in 1950, tackling hillclimbs, sports-car events and endurance races before trying Formula Two with an AFM-BMW.

His only World Championship entry came at the 1952 German Grand Prix. Fischer recorded the 31st qualifying time, but officials did not permit him to start. He was among a group of entrants whose participation raised concerns about their readiness for the demanding Nürburgring race, leaving his championship record without an actual race appearance or points.
Further controversy followed in 1953. An altercation involving Prince Bira at Chimay and participation in a foreign event without the necessary authorisation contributed to disciplinary action by Germany’s sporting authority, the ONS. His suspension lasted beyond that year’s German Grand Prix, closing off another possible home championship opportunity.
Additional bans affected his later career, which never developed into sustained success at international level. Fischer retired from competition in 1964 and published an autobiography in 1966. He died on 8 March 1991. His story belongs to the crowded, sometimes improvised world of post-war German racing, rather than the list of drivers who actually started a championship Grand Prix.
