Racing career

USAC Championship Car series

Amick competed in the USAC Championship Car series during the late 1950s. His active seasons ran from 1958 to 1960, during which he made five race starts.

While his time at the top level was relatively brief, Amick managed to achieve a top-ten finish, highlighting his competitiveness in a highly challenging era of American open-wheel racing.

Indianapolis 500

Amick took part in two editions of the Indianapolis 500. The 1959 Indianapolis 500 and 1960 Indianapolis 500.

His best result at the event came in 1960, when he finished 11th, just outside the top ten.

Although not among the most prominent names of his era, Red Amick represents the many dedicated drivers who competed in the fiercely competitive USAC Championship Car scene of the late 1950s. His participation in the Indianapolis 500 places him among the select group of drivers to have raced in one of motorsport’s most prestigious events.
