Team History

Based in the United States, Hall was one of many independent American constructors that entered the Indianapolis 500 during the early years of the Formula One World Championship.

The team was founded and run by Karl Hall, who served as both team principal and technical chief. Like many Indianapolis entrants of the era, Hall focused exclusively on Championship Car racing rather than the European Grand Prix stage.

Although its Formula One involvement lasted just a single event, the team’s participation is officially recognised because the Indianapolis 500 counted towards the FIA World Drivers’ Championship between 1950 and 1960.

Formula One

Hall made its Formula One World Championship debut at the 1951 Indianapolis 500.

The team entered a single car powered by the dependable Offenhauser engine, with American driver Bill Mackey behind the wheel.

Mackey qualified 33rd on the starting grid before bringing the car home in 19th place.

The Indianapolis 500 proved to be Hall’s only appearance in the Formula One World Championship. The team did not return to Grand Prix competition and never entered another championship event.
