Alberto Rodríguez Larreta (14 January 1934 – 11 March 1977) was an Argentine racing driver born in Buenos Aires. Larreta became one of a number of talented Argentine drivers who followed in the footsteps of the nation’s great post-war motorsport pioneers, competing across a broad range of disciplines both at home and internationally.
His sole appearance in the Formula One World Championship came at the 1960 Argentine Grand Prix, held on 7 February at Buenos Aires. Driving a Lotus 16 entered by the factory Team Lotus operation, Larreta found himself competing against some of the finest drivers of the era. He qualified in 15th position and delivered a solid performance to finish ninth, completing what would be his only World Championship Formula One start.
The appearance proved significant for more than just the result. Impressed by his abilities, Lotus founder and engineering visionary Colin Chapman reportedly offered Larreta a more permanent opportunity within the team. However, rather than pursuing a full-time Formula One career, Larreta chose a different path. Preferring the variety and challenge offered by multiple series, he declined the opportunity and continued racing across a wide spectrum of motorsports.
Larreta remained active in competition until 1970. He passed away at age 43 on 11 March 1977 from a heart attack.
