Born on 11 July 1924, Alberto Uría was one of Uruguay’s early pioneers on the international motor racing stage. While his Formula One career was brief, he earned a place in the sport’s history through his privateer efforts during the 1950s.
Uría made his Formula One World Championship debut on 16 January 1955, competing in the 1955 Argentine Grand Prix. Racing as an independent entrant rather than with a factory-backed team, he campaigned a Maserati in both of his World Championship appearances.
His Formula One journey consisted of two starts in the Argentine Grand Prix, in 1955 and 1956. Although he did not score any World Championship points, his strongest result came in the 1956 race, where he shared driving duties with fellow Uruguayan Óscar González and finished sixth. While that result fell just outside the points-paying positions of the time, it remains the standout achievement of his Formula One career.
