Frank Simon Armi Jr. (12 October 1918 – 28 November 1992) was an American racing driver whose working life ultimately took him from motorsport into the film and television industry. Armi’s career was unusually varied. Alongside racing, he served during the Second World War and later operated an auto-parts shop, keeping his professional life closely connected to cars even away from competition.

Racing and later career
Armi continued racing into the 1960s before bringing his competitive career to a close around the middle of the decade.
Rather than simply stepping away from professional life, he moved into an entirely different industry.
Armi became a television and film sound engineer, specialising as a sound technician. His credits included work on The 3rd Voice, starring Edmond O’Brien and Julie London.
He subsequently established a lengthy career with Universal Pictures, working for the studio for more than 25 years.
It made for an unusual post-racing chapter: from race cars and auto parts to the technical side of Hollywood filmmaking.
Armi died on 28 November 1992, aged 74.
