Before reaching Formula One, Iglesias had already established himself in Argentina’s thriving long-distance racing series. Driving a Chevrolet Special, he achieved several strong results in endurance events.

His performances attracted the attention of the Gordini team, which invited him to drive one of its factory-entered Gordini Type 16 cars in the 1955 Argentine Grand Prix. Competing against an international field that included many of the sport’s leading names, Iglesias qualified 17th on the grid from a field of 22 starters, a respectable achievement for a driver making his World Championship debut.

Race day, however, proved far more demanding. Held in extreme summer temperatures, the Argentine Grand Prix became notorious for the physical punishment it inflicted on drivers. Iglesias battled through the sweltering conditions but was forced to retire on lap 38 when his car suffered transmission failure. Reports from the event also suggested that, like many competitors that day, he was struggling with the intense heat and exhaustion that affected much of the field.

Although his Formula One opportunity was limited to that single World Championship appearance, Iglesias remained an active and competitive racer. Following the Argentine Grand Prix, he returned to the discipline that had first brought him recognition—endurance racing. Concentrating exclusively on events in Argentina, he continued to compete against some of the country’s leading drivers and maintained a strong presence in national motorsport.

The highlight of his post-Formula One career came in 1956 at the prestigious Rafaela 500-mile race. Driving his trusted Chevrolet Special, Iglesias produced one of the finest performances of his career to secure second place, a result that stands among his greatest achievements in Argentine motorsport.
