David Prophet (9 October 1937 – 29 March 1981) was a British racing driver from England who competed in Formula One during the early 1960s.

Prophet made two appearances in Formula One World Championship Grands Prix, making his debut on 28 December at the 1963 South African Grand Prix. He scored no championship points during his brief spell at the highest level.
Away from the World Championship, Prophet also competed in non-Championship Formula One events, which remained an important part of the Grand Prix scene during the period.
One of his better results came in the 1963 Rand Grand Prix in South Africa, where he finished sixth.
Although his Formula One record was short, Prophet belonged to an era when privateer drivers could build careers across a mixture of Championship and non-Championship events, taking opportunities wherever competitive machinery and race entries were available.
Death
Prophet’s life ended tragically on 29 March 1981.
Shortly after taking off from Silverstone Circuit, the helicopter in which he was travelling crashed. Prophet and fellow occupant Christopher Roberts were both aboard.
Prophet was 43 years old.
