Founded in 1952 by Gianni Lancia, son of the founding figure of the Lancia brand, Scuderia Lancia, later rebranded as Squadra Corse HF Lancia, and served as the Lancia car company’s racing division.

Notable Team Members and Drivers

Gianni Lancia: Was an Italian automobile engineer, industrialist and racing enthusiast known for running the Lancia carmaker in Turin from 1949 to 1955.

Alberto Ascari: Due to a salary dispute, Ascari left Ferrari at the end of the 1953 season to join Lancia in 1954. However, as Lancia’s car was not ready until the season’s final race, Gianni Lancia permitted Ascari to compete for Maserati and Ferrari that season. Ascari finally secured pole position at the 1954 Spanish Grand Prix in his debut race with Lancia.

Scuderia Lancia started its competitive journey in motorsports, specifically rally racing. The team made its mark in events such as the Carrera Panamericana, the Targa Florio, and the Mille Miglia.

It wasn’t until 1954 that the team entered Formula 1 for just two seasons, 1954 and 1955, although neither season yielded significant success. Notable drivers for the team included Alberto Ascari.

Beyond F1, the team experienced a resurgence in the World Endurance Championship (WEC), securing three world titles from 1979 to 1981 and in rally racing, where it clinched eleven constructors’ titles and four drivers’ titles from 1974 to 1992.

Lancia officially withdrew from all motorsport activities at the end of 1991.
