Before he was spinning records in clubs across Europe as “Squire,” Jaime Alguersuari was making headlines as one of Formula One’s boldest young talents. Born in Barcelona in 1990 and raised in a family steeped in motorsport—his father a former motorcycle racer and promoter—Alguersuari looked destined for F1 from the very start.

After clinching the 2008 British Formula 3 International Series, Alguersuari found himself on the radar of the Red Bull Junior Team. Just one year later, he shocked the racing world by becoming the youngest F1 driver in F1 History (at the time) at the 2009 Hungarian Grand Prix, aged just 19 years and 125 days. While the record has since been broken by Max Verstappen, it created headlines as a driver to watch.
Toro Rosso: 2009–2011
Alguersuari was fast-tracked into F1 mid-season in 2009, replacing Sébastien Bourdais at Scuderia Toro Rosso. Though his debut season was turbulent—with mechanical DNFs and a high-speed crash in Japan—it was clear he had raw talent.
In 2010, Alguersuari matured behind the wheel. He scored his first Formula One points in Malaysia, and mixed it up with legends like Michael Schumacher, holding his own over multiple races. By 2011, he was qualifying in the top 10, fighting for consistent points finishes, and earned his career-best result of seventh at both Monza and Korea.
But Formula One can be ruthless. Despite a solid season, Alguersuari was dropped by Toro Rosso in late 2011 in favour of Daniel Ricciardo and Jean-Eric Vergne—a Red Bull decision that sparked debate given his form and potential.
Life After F1
Alguersuari didn’t sit still for long. In 2012, he joined BBC Radio 5 Live as an expert commentator, bringing his insider insight to fans worldwide. But his passions lay elsewhere. Already an accomplished electronic music producer and DJ, Alguersuari shifted focus and fully embraced his stage persona, Squire. In 2015, at just 25, he announced his official retirement from motorsport to pursue his music career full-time.
