2023 Bahrain Grand Prix: F1 Race, Qualifying & Winners

The 2023 Bahrain Grand Prix marked the Formula 1 race debuts of Oscar Piastri and Logan Sargeant, with Sargeant becoming the first American driver to start a Grand Prix since 2015.

It was also a milestone start for Aston Martin, which recorded its 50th World Championship race start and became the 48th constructor to reach that mark.

In terms of victories, the race delivered the 36th career win for Max Verstappen and the 93rd win for Red Bull, with the team also securing its 23rd race one–two finish.

The podium carried further significance: it was the 99th podium for Fernando Alonso, his first since 2021 and his first with Aston Martin, the 78th podium for Verstappen, and the 27th for Sergio Perez; together they brought up the 235th and 236th podiums for Red Bull and the second for Aston Martin, also its first since 2021.

Qualifying produced the 21st pole position of Verstappen’s career and the 82nd for Red Bull, with the team registering its 26th qualifying one–two as Verstappen and Perez locked out the front row.

In the race, Guanyu Zhou set the fastest lap of the Grand Prix, the second of his Formula 1 career and the 16th fastest lap for Alfa Romeo, while the front-row tally for Verstappen reached 43 and for Perez reached 7.

Verstappen’s victory from pole also meant he achieved his 16th career pole‑to‑win combination, underlining Red Bull’s dominance at the season opener.
