FIA Formula 1 Standings

The FIA Formula One World Championship is the pinnacle of all the motorsports series. The formula features the world’s best drivers and teams competing for the championship titles. At the heart of the season are the F1 standings, which determine the winners of the Drivers’ and Constructors’ that year.

The 2025 F1 season will again be fought over 24 Grand Prix weekends as the championship celebrates its 75th anniversary. For the first time in many years, the season will start with the Australian Grand Prix between March 14 and 16 and conclude with the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix between December 5 and 7.

As the season concludes, the driver accumulating the most points is crowned the FIA Formula One World Champion. The standings also sort the other drivers, with the second-highest points scorer named the runner-up and the third-highest referred to as the third-placed driver, continuing down the ranks. The top three drivers are awarded at the end-of-season FIA Prize Giving Ceremony, an annual event promoted by Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) that honours the achievements of all FIA champions over the previous season.

Updated after each race, the F1 standings allow fans to track the progress of their favourite drivers throughout the season. They offer a window into predicting the potential champion of that season and give fans a way to follow the drivers from their home countries or the performance of their preferred teams.

Formula One also includes Constructor standings in addition to the individual Driver standings. These standings are determined similarly to the driver standings, with points assigned based on the team drivers’ finishing positions. The team with the highest total points by season’s end is declared the Constructors’ Champion.

The F1 standings of the Formula One World Championship allow fans to follow each driver’s progress throughout the season and ultimately determine the championship winner.

McLaren sealed the 2025 Constructors’ Championship with six races still to go, wrapping it up at the 2025 Singapore Grand Prix after a strong result from Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri. The win guaranteed their dominance in the current era, coming off the back of their 2024 triumph, which had already ended a 26-year drought since their previous constructors’ title in 1998.

This 2025 success made it back-to-back Constructors’ Championships for McLaren, a historic return to when the team boasted multiple titles through the 1980s and early 1990s. It was the first time since 1991 that they had successfully defended a Constructors’ crown.

Points for the 2025 Formula 1 season are allocated to the top ten finishers in a Grand Prix and the top eight in the Sprint Race.

After the FIA abandoned the fastest lap points system at the end of the 2024 season, there would no longer be a single point for the driver clocking the fastest lap in the Grand Prix.

To determine the Drivers’ Champion when there’s a tie in points, the tie-breaker involves comparing the number of Grand Prix victories each driver has. If they have the same number of wins, the number of second-place finishes is considered, followed by third places, and so on.
