Max Verstappen emerged from a chaotic Singapore Sprint with another victory for Red Bull, handling a drying Marina Bay circuit while several rivals saw their races unravel. George Russell crashed after taking the lead on the opening lap, and late contact between Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris turned McLaren’s pursuit of Ferrari into a costly afternoon.

What To Know?
  • Verstappen wins again: The Red Bull driver followed his Malaysia victory with Sprint success in 39:48.162, earning eight points.
  • Russell loses the lead: After passing Verstappen at the start, he crashed at the final corner of the opening lap.
  • Ferrari takes second and third: Hamilton recovered from sixth to finish +2.591s behind Verstappen, with Leclerc third at +16.871s.
  • McLaren contact reshuffles the points: Norris spun Piastri at Turn 5, helping Antonelli finish fourth; Norris dropped to eighth and Piastri stopped, classified 14th.

Following his breakthrough victory at the Bahrain Grand Prix in Malaysia, Verstappen delivered another winning performance in the 2026 F1 World Championship. The Dutchman regained first place after Russell’s exit, controlled the restart and managed his Intermediate tyres through changing conditions to finish ahead of Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc.

Rain had complicated the contest before it even began. A pre-race downpour soaked the first and third sectors, while the middle section remained merely damp, presenting drivers with markedly different grip levels around the lap. The start was delayed by approximately half an hour, and every driver began on Intermediate tyres.

When racing finally got under way, Russell repeated his fast start from Sepang. The Mercedes driver swept past polesitter Verstappen on the slippery surface and immediately began building an advantage, briefly looking capable of taking control of the race.

That promising opening lasted less than a lap. Russell crashed at the final corner on the first tour, throwing away the lead and ending his Sprint. Verstappen inherited first place and, once racing resumed, executed the restart cleanly to keep the chasing pack behind.

From there, the Red Bull driver balanced pace with tyre management as the circuit steadily dried. He progressively pulled clear of the Ferraris and McLarens, completing the race in 39m 48.162s and collecting the maximum eight points.

Hamilton led Ferrari’s challenge after an excellent launch transformed sixth on the grid into third. Russell’s retirement then promoted him to second, a position he retained to the finish, crossing the line 2.591s behind Verstappen for seven points.

Leclerc followed in third, 16.871s adrift, earning six points, but his closing laps were far from comfortable. The Ferrari driver reported heavily worn Intermediate tyres as the drying surface increased the challenge of maintaining pace, allowing both McLarens to close in.

Piastri and Norris were also fighting each other, and their late battle produced the race’s decisive midfield reshuffle. At Turn 5, Norris made contact with Piastri, sending the Australian into a spin and abruptly changing the order behind Ferrari.

Championship leader Kimi Antonelli capitalised to finish fourth, 17.238s behind the winner, taking five points. Liam Lawson also benefited, bringing his Racing Bulls home fifth at +20.632s for four points.

Ollie Bearman finished sixth for Haas and Nico Hulkenberg seventh for Audi, both gaining from McLaren’s collision. Norris slipped to eighth, while Piastri stopped and was ultimately classified 14th, one lap down.

Pierre Gasly took ninth for Alpine, followed by Haas driver Esteban Ocon, Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso, Williams’ Carlos Sainz and Racing Bulls’ Arvid Lindblad. Those five were the remaining drivers to reach the chequered flag in an attritional contest.

A three-car collision eliminated Alex Albon’s Williams, Gabriel Bortoleto’s Audi and Valtteri Bottas’ Cadillac. Isack Hadjar stopped early in the second Red Bull, as did Alpine’s Franco Colapinto, while Sergio Perez and Lance Stroll collided on the opening lap in their Cadillac and Aston Martin respectively.
