Formula 1’s Asian triple-header reached its floodlit finale in Singapore, where the skyline provided the spectacle and Marina Bay supplied the pressure. Running from 9–11 October, the Singapore Grand Prix hosted Round 17 of the 2026 F1 World Championship, bringing the field to a street circuit that demands precision, stamina, and confidence between the barriers. The night-race setting is unmistakable, but the heat, humidity and relentless rhythm make this one of the season’s toughest assignments.
This year, Singapore added another challenge: its first Sprint weekend, also the season’s sixth and final Sprint event. With just one practice session before Friday’s Sprint Qualifying, teams had limited time to find a setup their drivers could trust in the year’s new regulations. Saturday then delivered both the Sprint and Grand Prix qualifying before Sunday’s main event—a packed schedule that would reward quick adaptation and make every competitive session count as the championship headed towards its closing rounds.

Marina Bay Street Circuit Stats & Facts
Threading through Singapore’s waterfront streets, the circuit combines unforgiving barriers, heavy braking zones and repeated bursts of acceleration with the heat and humidity of a tropical night. It became Formula 1’s first night-race venue in 2008, and its floodlit skyline remains instantly recognisable. Behind that spectacle lies one of the calendar’s most demanding tests of concentration and endurance.

Ahead of the 2026 race, the layout measured 4.927km and featured 19 corners, with the 2023 redesign replacing four turns with a longer straight. That change created more room to attack, although overtaking still required careful preparation. The braking zone into the left-handed Turn 7 a key battleground. Qualifying remained influential, but managing rear-tyre temperatures was equally important: repeated acceleration can cost grip just when a driver needs it most.
Strategy also carried an element of uncertainty. Singapore built its reputation on Safety Car interruptions, with every running from 2008 to 2023 featuring at least one deployment. That sequence ended in 2024, and the 2025 race also ran without a Safety Car—a reminder that teams cannot count on an interruption to rescue their afternoon. Balancing track position, tyre life and pit-stop timing remains central to getting Marina Bay right.
Entering the 2026 race, George Russell was the defending race winner, with Sebastian Vettel sitting top with five wins in total, and Vettel and Lewis Hamilton with four poles each. Could Hamitlon add to that tally in 2026?
Championship background
Max Verstappen arrived in Singapore with a victory finally on the board after a dramatic afternoon in Malaysia delivered Red Bull’s first win of the season. In mixed conditions at Sepang, the Dutchman emerged on top to give the team a much-needed lift heading into the final stretch of the championship. Marina Bay now offered a different test: turning that breakthrough into sustained momentum on a circuit where confidence and precision carry a premium.
For Kimi Antonelli, second place in Malaysia brought an even greater reward in the championship standings. His advantage over Mercedes team-mate George Russell grew to 84 points after Russell’s late retirement with a power unit issue—a costly setback at a stage when opportunities to close the gap were dwindling. Singapore’s Sprint format added another points-scoring opportunity, increasing the pressure on Russell to respond while giving Antonelli the chance to tighten his grip on the title fight.
Lewis Hamilton also heads to Singapore with momentum after recovering from 18th to third in Malaysia. A tyre gamble left the Ferrari driver deep in the field before he fought back to salvage a podium, underlining his ability to read changing conditions and keep a difficult race alive. That recovery offered encouragement ahead of Marina Bay, where the tight, twisting layout should give him scope to put his precision and experience to work, provided Ferrari could deliver the balance he needed.
Race entries
The lineup of drivers and teams remained the same as the 2026 season’s entry list, featuring no reserve drivers for the race.
