Championship background
Denny Hulme arrived at round 4 leading the 1967 F1 World Championship on 16 points, with Pedro Rodríguez on 11. Brabham – Repco headed the constructors’ standings after the preceding race with 18 points.
Race entries
The leading teams retained broadly similar line-ups to Zandvoort. Brabham brought its new chassis for Jack and an older car for Hulme, while BRM compared its H16 machinery with the lighter V8 cars. Gurney had the lightweight Eagle-Weslake, and Ferrari again fielded Amon, Parkes and Scarfiotti.
Friday timed practice
Clark dramatically raised the pace in the Lotus-Cosworth, with Hill and Gurney also showing strong speed. BRM found its H16 cars more competitive on Spa’s fast sections and allocated them to Stewart and Spence. Hulme disliked the handling of his borrowed older Brabham and completed no official flying lap. The leading times underlined how quickly the new engines were changing expectations.
Saturday final qualifying
Clark improved again to secure pole, deliberately finding clear track before his fastest run. Gurney repeated his Friday pace for second, while Hill failed to improve as his engine lost oil. Siffert borrowed a works Cooper after gearbox trouble, and Stewart pushed the H16 BRM strongly. Surtees remained frustrated by the Honda’s lack of speed.
Qualifying Classification
Clark took pole ahead of Gurney and Hill, using the fastest lap across the two afternoon sessions.

What happened in the 1967 Belgian Grand Prix?
Clark led comfortably until a spark-plug stop cost him the initiative. Stewart took over, with Gurney pursuing despite an interruption for fuel-pressure trouble. Parkes crashed heavily on the opening lap and suffered injuries that ended his Formula One career.
Stewart’s gear-selection problem transformed the fight for victory. Gurney closed rapidly, passed the BRM and pulled clear, setting a new lap record along the way. The Eagle’s speed finally produced the championship result its team had been seeking.
Stewart held second ahead of Amon. Rindt finished fourth, with Clark recovering fifth and Irwin sixth. Gurney had won a World Championship Grand Prix in a car bearing his own team’s name, a landmark for the small Eagle operation.
After the race, Denny Hulme headed the drivers’ standings with 16 points, followed by Pedro Rodríguez on 11. Brabham – Repco led the constructors’ table on 18, with Cooper – Maserati on 14.
