Jack Brabham won Canada’s first World Championship Grand Prix, leading Denny Hulme home in another team one-two. Dan Gurney finished third after changing weather and electrical trouble reshaped the race at Mosport.

Championship background
Denny Hulme arrived at round 8 leading the 1967 F1 World Championship on 37 points, with Jack Brabham on 25. Brabham – Repco headed the constructors’ standings after the preceding race with 42 points.
Race entries
McLaren introduced his new BRM V12-powered car, while Attwood replaced the injured Rodriguez at Cooper. Eppie Wietzes joined Lotus, and Al Pease and Mike Fisher brought privately owned cars. Tom Jones also practised but was not permitted to start after recording a time well outside the leading pace.
Thursday unofficial practice
Ten cars began learning the circuit, with Gurney, Clark and Amon showing early speed. Clark spun the Lotus intended for Wietzes and damaged its rear suspension, leaving the mechanics an overnight repair. The session provided useful familiarisation but did not count towards the grid.
Friday morning unofficial practice
Teams concentrated on mixture and suspension settings before official timing began. Mosport was unfamiliar to many of the visitors, and the additional running gave them time to adapt their cars to its gradients and changing cambers. Preparations also continued around the new McLaren–BRM and the repaired Lotus.
Friday timed practice
Clark went fastest while comparing tyre options, but Rindt suffered a shattered starter ring that damaged a fuel tank. Stewart’s BRM misfired and juddered under braking. Gurney’s engine lacked its usual power, while McLaren made encouraging progress despite mixture and oil-temperature concerns. Hulme was closest to Clark.
Saturday morning unofficial practice
Brabham’s worsening oil smoke prompted an engine change before the afternoon session. Hill tried Goodyear tyres, while Amon changed gearing after adopting lower-profile tyres. Stewart continued searching for clean acceleration. Wietzes used the extra time to become more familiar with the Lotus.
Saturday final qualifying
Clark and Hill secured the first two positions after returning to Firestones. Amon improved with revised ratios, but Gurney required another engine after fuel-metering-drive trouble. Brabham’s mechanics completed a rapid engine change in time for him to run. Siffert then suffered a starter-ring failure that ultimately prevented his race start.
Qualifying Classification
Only the two afternoon timed sessions determined the grid. The additional Thursday and morning sessions were unofficial preparation. Jones was not allowed to start, and Siffert’s mechanical problems made him a non-starter.

What happened in the 1967 Canadian Grand Prix?
Clark led in the opening rain before Hulme moved ahead. McLaren recovered from a spin to challenge strongly, but his battery gradually lost charge. As the circuit dried, Clark closed on Hulme and regained the lead.
Rain returned, and water-related electrical trouble stopped Clark’s challenge. Hulme needed stops for clearer eye protection, allowing Brabham to take control. Stewart also retired after repeated attempts to clear debris from his car’s throttle mechanism.
Brabham won ahead of Hulme and Gurney, with Hill fourth, Spence fifth and Amon sixth. Pease persevered after battery problems but finished too far behind to be classified. The Brabham team’s reliability again converted a difficult race into maximum advantage.
After the race, Denny Hulme headed the drivers’ standings with 43 points, followed by Jack Brabham on 34. Brabham – Repco led the constructors’ table on 51, with Lotus – Ford on 22.
