Championship background

Sebastian Vettel arrived at round 13 leading the 2013 F1 World Championship on 222 points, with Fernando Alonso on 169. Red Bull Racing headed the constructors’ standings with 352 points.

Race entries

The 11 teams kept the same race line-ups for the Singapore Grand Prix.

Free Practice

Lewis Hamilton led FP1 as daylight faded and the floodlights took over around Marina Bay. The opening session began slowly while teams completed their checks and waited for better conditions. Sergio Pérez spun after running off at Turn 7, and Kimi Räikkönen used an escape road, both continuing without serious damage.

Sebastian Vettel established a substantial FP2 advantage before teams compared supersoft and medium tyres over longer runs. Felipe Massa narrowly avoided a wall, while Pastor Maldonado made contact at Turn 13 but managed to reverse away. Romain Grosjean’s brake problems curtailed Lotus’s late running, leaving him short of some planned race preparation.

Sebastian Vettel remained quickest in FP3, but Romain Grosjean closed the gap as Lotus sharpened its qualifying pace. Medium-tyre work occupied much of the session before the late supersoft attempts. Daniel Ricciardo reported an early braking problem, while teams refined their understanding of tyre durability around the demanding street circuit.

What happened in the 2013 Singapore Grand Prix?

Rosberg briefly challenged Vettel at the first corner but ran wide, allowing the Red Bull back ahead. Alonso made a strong start from seventh to third, while Vettel immediately began opening a substantial gap.

Daniel Ricciardo‘s crash brought out the safety car and erased Vettel’s advantage. The leader responded with a sequence of very fast laps after the restart, building enough time to make his final stop without losing first place.

Alonso’s strategy secured second, while Räikkönen progressed through the field to reach the podium. Grosjean’s promising race ended with a pneumatic-system problem, and Mark Webber suffered a late mechanical failure.

Vettel won by more than half a minute, ahead of Alonso and Räikkönen. Rosberg finished fourth and Hamilton fifth. Webber retired on the final lap, then received a reprimand after accepting a lift back on Alonso’s Ferrari.

Further down the points places, Jenson Button, Sergio Pérez, Nico Hülkenberg and Adrian Sutil completed the scoring positions. Sebastian Vettel set the fastest lap, but no bonus point was awarded under the 2013 rules.

After the race, Sebastian Vettel headed the drivers’ standings with 247 points, followed by Fernando Alonso on 187. Red Bull Racing led the constructors’ table on 377, with Ferrari on 274.
