André Théodore Pilette (6 October 1918 – 27 December 1993) was one of Belgium’s early Formula One drivers, carrying on a family tradition in motorsport. The son of former Indianapolis 500 driver Théodore Pilette, André built a career that saw him represent Belgium on the world stage during Formula One’s formative years.

Pilette made his Formula One World Championship debut on 17 June 1951 at the 1951 Belgian Grand Prix, driving a Talbot-Lago T26C. Over the course of his career, he entered 14 World Championship Grands Prix, starting 9 and competing against many of the sport’s biggest names.
Although championship points were hard to come by in the fiercely competitive early years of Formula One, Pilette secured two World Championship points, earning his place among Belgium’s notable Grand Prix drivers.
Motorsport remained firmly in the Pilette family’s DNA. His son, Teddy Pilette, also reached Formula One, following in his father’s footsteps during the mid-1970s. While Teddy’s time in the World Championship was considerably shorter, the father-and-son pairing remains a unique chapter in Belgian motorsport history, spanning two generations of Grand Prix racing.
